DANCING WITH THE STARS Showdown: Halfway Point Elimination!

DANCING WITH THE STARS Showdown Halfway Point EliminationLast night on DANCING WITH THE STARS, the celebrities went retro to deliver some personal high scores in an 80s flashback episode. Tonight, the pros kick things off by bidding goodbye to the theme with a Madonna medley - even pulling in a choir - and with that, it's time to find out the results.

JR Martinez and his partner Karina lead the pack from last night with 28 judges' points; Carson Kressley and Anna are at the other end of things with just 19 judges' points. As could be expected, regular leader Ricki Lake is declared safe immediately. Hope Solo, who's shown in last night's post-show footage struggling with the idea that her best might not be enough, is in jeopardy.

For this week's musical performance the original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, performs "Mr. Know It All" from her new album (it's titled "Stronger" and hits stores on October 24).

We also get a glimpse at the first AT&T Spotlight performer, Charm Ladonna, a young dancer whose mother had to make tough choices to afford to keep sending her daughter to dance class. Charm dances with Mark Ballas and Derek Hough with some creative video effects, and then The Band Perry takes to the stage to perform their hit "If I Die Young" accompanied in dance by Karina Smirnoff and another DWTS familiar face: Louis Van Amstel.

Kelly Clarkson then returns to perform one of her chart toppers, "Walk Away," and other than a little mishap at the very end of the song she sounds virtually no worse for the wear in the five or so years since the song's early 2006 release.

As usual, though, we have to say goodbye to someone - and it's Carson Kressley who'll be packing his bags and hitting the road tonight. Audience popularity couldn't overcome judges' scores this week, so it's a disappointed but grateful Carson who bids adieu to the competition. "This has been pure joy for me," he says, "I like to make people smile and laugh and have a good time."

Next week is Broadway week, featuring a performance from SISTER ACT as well as a surprise Broadway star! Viewers may cast their votes for their favorite teams via phone on Monday night during and up to 30 minutes after the "Dancing with the Stars" performance shows. Wireless customers with AT&T may also text message their votes by texting the word "VOTE" to the number that corresponds to the team they want to support (message and data rates may apply). Viewers may also vote online at www.abc.com starting from the opening of each episode on the East Coast, until 8:00 a.m., PT the following day. Fans may cast the maximum limit of votes for each voting method.

"Dancing with the Stars" is the U.S. version of the international smash hit series, "Strictly Come Dancing." This version is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Conrad Green serves as executive producer and Rob Wade is co-executive producer. Alex Rudzinski directs. "Dancing with the Stars" is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with 5.1 channel surround sound.
