With so many celebrities reporting weight loss after competing on "Dancing With the Stars," it's no surprise the show is starting to attract contestants looking specifically to lose weight. Kirstie Alley has been hard at work shedding pounds, but she recently signed on to "DWTS" with the express purpose of losing more weight.
"[She] admitted to me that she already lost 60 lbs. on her own," Us Weeky's executive editor Caroline Schaefer told to FOX411. "She said that she’d like to lose about 30 lbs. more on the show -- she knows that competing on 'Dancing with the Stars' will help her lose the weight."
Many past contestants have reported significant weight loss while training for "DWTS," including Kelly Osbourne, who lost a remarkable 42 pounds on the show, Marie Osmond, Steve Wozniak and Tia Carrere. Jackie Keller, a nutrition expert, told FOX411, "I think after [Osmond lost weight], weight loss became a more significant part of the DNA of the show.
Schaefer explained, "Often the stars have to change their diets, because if you’re eating pizza and McDonald’s and you’re doing something that’s really rigorous for eight hours a day, you’re going to feel sick. So naturally, you just start to eat better."Is "Dancing With the Stars" starting to seem like more of a weight loss show than a dance show?
