‘Dancing With the Stars’: Maria Menounos and Derek Hough Voted Off in Week 9 of Season 14

Posted in : Celebrities, Competitions

(added 1 days ago)

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough were eliminated from ”Dancing With the Stars” tonight. Of the couples who performed Monday night, Menounos and Hough had the highest judges’ score, but contestants are eliminated based on a combination of judges’ scores as well as audience votes. “No matter which way this goes, it’s gonna suck,” said host Tom Bergeron before announcing which contestant — Menounos or NFL star Donald Driver — would be eliminated. Many in the crowd booed the announcement. “I learned how strong I was, how to persevere,” Menounos said.

Hough paid tribute to Menounos’ talent and drive — “and not just on the dance floor … in the dance of life.”The announcement capped a packed results show that began with an encore performance by telenovela star William Levy and Cheryl Burke of the samba that earned them a perfect score Monday night. Alanis Morissette and Carrie Underwood sang songs, and Julianne Hough and others from this summer’s movie “Rock of Ages” performed.

The show examined the mishap that occurred Monday night during a routine danced by Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins and her partner, Mark Ballas. The injury did not hurt her last night, at least. Next week, Driver, Levy and Jenkins will battle it out for the mirror ball trophy.

Shannon Noll undergoes emegency spinal surgery after quitting DWTS

Posted in : Celebrities, Gossips

(added 2 days ago)

The Melbourne-based and Condobolin-born singer was forced to withdraw from the reality show and had emergency surgery yesterday. The official announcement was made on the Channel Seven show last tonight, after it was revealed Noll was the star who had emergency surgery recently. "I'm really sorry that I couldn't keep going in the competition. It's sad that this happened the way it did," 36-year-old Noll told website Herald Sun from his hospital bed with wife Rochelle Ogston by his side. "Thanks to everyone who has supported me and my charity, beyondblue. "I'd like the judges to come in and give a score on the doctor's efforts," he told the Herald Sun.

Noll, 36, had been complaining of back pain for several weeks and is understood to have hurt himself in training while rehearsing a lift with professional dance partner Elena Samodanova. Noll said he had been in "excruciating pain" last week. He is expected to require at least six weeks of rehabilitation. On Friday on Twitter, the Australian Idol runner-up swung his support behind ex-AFL player Brendan Fevola. "I'll be voting for you now," he wrote.

Moms Spray Dirty-Dancing Teens with Lysol in Real-Life Footloose Fiasco

Posted in : Competitions, Gossips

(added 5 days ago)

On April 22nd, the hormonal teenagers of Manitou Springs High School gathered at City Hall to engage in the rites of prom. There was music, there punch, there was (probably) crying in bathroom stalls. And there was dancing so dirty that two chaperones decided to break out the Lysol. Literally.

Jennifer Farmer and Hannah Rockey are parents of students at Manitou Springs (go Mustangs!). They are also apparently extras from the movie Footloose, sworn to protect their town from the vileness of writhing teen flesh. At least, that's how one prom attendee—who is now pressing charges—remembers the night. According to a local Denver ABC affiliate.

Which is one way to restore order! More practical than pouring a bucket of ice water over their heads, at any rate. The two moms deny the allegations, clarifying that there was definitely no Lysol but probably maybe air freshener or some sort of something. In some ways you can see it from their point of view. They were, after all, witnessing their college-bound progeny move "like they are having sex with their clothes on." But then you remember that Lysol's recommended uses include the following.

'Dancing With the Stars' results recap: Double elimination blues

Posted in : Celebrities, Competitions

(added 7 days ago)

We’re on a fast track toward the finish line, ballroom fans. Only, to make it to next week’s semifinals, “Dancing With the Stars” had to really clean house and launch not one, but two stars out of its shiny glitterverse with a dreaded double elimination.

'Dancing With the Stars' results recap: Double elimination blues

And the two couples ousted this week were Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower, and Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (on Melissa’s birthday, no less!).

Alas, no one can really be surprised at either of these exits. Sadly, what Kenny Mayne snarked during “DanceCenter” was true: While Roshon may resemble a young Barack Obama, President Obama has a better chance of winning this year. Even though Maria Menounos and Derek Hough earned fewer total judges’ points than Roshon and Chelsie, Roshon always seemed to have less of a voting fan base and frequently found himself in the bottom two. And there was no dance duel to get him out of the hole this week. Roshon and Chelsie got their walking papers halfway through the hour. But at least they were able to end on a high note. Their cute little fox trot was just the bees’ knees and so endearing. And now I’ll forever think of him in that dapper plaid jacket. Glad his grandmas (who were so confident that he would make it through to the semifinals) weren’t around to see this.

Melissa, on the other hand, had her family in the studio audience, and it was heartbreaking to see her son so devastated. “I’m amazed that I even made it this far,” she said. “The things we have been able to overcome make it a really incredible birthday.” “I wish I could have given you a better birthday present,” responded Maks. “I’m very honored to have met you.”

Though Half-pint could also leave with her head held high. Not only did Melissa come off her two strongest and highest-scoring routines, she will forever go down as the middle of a luscious Chmerkovskiy dance sandwich. To think, I thought the dance trio’s ending shot with Melissa clenching a Chmerkovskiy butt cheek in each hand was lucky. The true fortune came backstage, when Maks and Val, both shirtless, planted a kiss on either side of Melissa’s cheek as she sat in ecstasy. Happy birthday, indeed! Now does anybody have a cigarette?

The encore dance was the highly deserving jive dance trio courtesy of Donald Driver, Peta Murgatroyd and Karina Smirnoff. And while this didn’t have as much oomph this time around (maybe Donald was nervous about whether or not he made it through to the semifinals, though he found out he did shortly thereafter), it was still a quick-flicking treat. And that leap frog jump, a.k.a. “the ultimate spray tan high jump,” was still pretty darn impressive.

“DanceCenter” came back! Kenny Mayne turned up with his face decals along with heavily eye-shadowed Season 2 finalist Jerry Rice and Len Goodman to size up and tear down the remaining contestants. There was a remix featuring Katherine Jenkins’ oft-referred-to “naughty bits.” We learned Roshon’s weight is “less than Chelsie” and that the Disney star’s mom “makes a great sack lunch.” That William “Dreamboat” Levy’s occupation is “Hot Guy” and all his stats are perfect. And we were treated to a black and white skin flick of Len Goodman prancing in slow motion down a sidewalk dressed solely in his skivvies that is now burned on my brain, and not in a good way. I liked how the stat sheet described Maria’s bones as “brittle” and how Kenny proposed marketing her insane dolphin laugh for car alarms and smoke detectors. Melissa Gilbert’s stats included “House Size: Little” and “Height: Half-Pint.” And Kenny suggested cornerbacks compliment the always-falling Donald “Chicken Legs” Driver on his paso doble to get him to the ground.  “Always a unique perspective,” observed Tom.

The ballroom was turned into Club Ballroom as Chris Brown came back to the “DWTS” stage to perform “Turn Up the Music” and show off his dance moves with his own suits while a laser light show pulsated around them. “Now that’s how you follow a bare-chested Len Goodman,” quipped Tom.

The Macy’s Stars of Dance performance was a tribute to Dick Clark. A bevy of dancers in ’50s outfits led by Tony Dovolani and Karina Smirnoff performed a high-octane shimmying sock hop that started “American Bandstand”-style in black and white on the stage with a cameraman and ended up on the dance floor. Bonus: Original dancers from the seminal TV show were present in the audience.

Promotion for “Dancing With the Stars Live in Las Vegas” continued as Dmitry Chaplin and Anya Garnis (hello, “So You Think You Can Dance”-ers!) performed an extremely sultry, intimate rumba to “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” direct from the Tropicana show. Dmitry made out like a bandit: He got the guitar and the girl at the end. And now the six remaining couples have been whittled down to four.

What do you think, ballroom fans? Were you sad to see Roshon and Melissa go? Do you feel worse for Melissa because she was eliminated on her birthday or less bad because she got to revel in that Chmerkovskiy sandwich? How would you rate that revealing footage of Len in his skivvies? I’d give it a se-VEN!

(added 10 days ago)

Eastleigh dance duo star in Britain’s got TalentFans of ITV’s ‘Britain’s got Talent’ will be glued to their screens tonight to see if local teenagers Kai Widdrington and Natalia Javed can get down to the last 40 contestants in this year’s popular talent show.

Kai (16) grew up in Eastleigh attending both St Swithins Wells and Toynbee School in Chandlers Ford and is currently attending Barton Peveril where he is studying ‘A’ levels in Contemporary Dance, Maths, Science and Sports.

Kai first started Latin and ballroom dancing under the keen eyes of Eastleigh’s own Pro Latin American Dance World Champions Alex and Lisa Ivanets at the Leigh Ballroom – until it was closed by the council.

Fortunately  Alex and Lisa – who are also proprietors of the ’spotlight’ dance wear shop on Passfield Avenue – were able to find new premises for their A & L Dance Academy in Hedge End  where Kai and Natalia (15) have been dancing together since 2010.

At their first audition on BGT the pair – who are also World Junior Latin Champions, received a standing ovation from the Birmingham audience and head judge Simon Cowell told them they were “fantastic dancers really, really great”

Kai and Natalia are not the only celebrity couple to dance at the A&L academy. Bursledon Councillor Steve Holes is also a regular.

Along with dance partner and wife Tina, the light-footed Lib Dem has tangoed and  cha-cha-cha’d his way to success winning second place for Great Britain in Paris last December at the World Latin American Dance Championship in Paris (over 50s).

YouTube: We Screwed Up by Banning Kate Upton ‘Cat Daddy’ Dancing Video

Posted in : Celebrities, Gossips

(added 13 days ago)

We can always count on Google to keep us abreast of “trending topics” in the news, and this morning the search giant informed us that Kate Upton of Sports Illustrated-swimsuit-issue fame was making headlines with her version of rapper Rej3ctz’s “Cat Daddy” dance. Upton, 19, was featured busting a move (and nearly busting out of her bikini top) in a titillating video directed by photographer Terry Richardson.

YouTube We Screwed Up by Banning Kate Upton ‘Cat Daddy’ Dancing Video

In the clip, which features Upton in the same skimpy suit she wore on the SI cover, Richardson introduces his masterpiece: “Only in America, tonight, ladies and gentleman, Kate Upton demonstrating the Cat Daddy. Take it away, Kate.” Upton proceeds to shimmy and shake her lusted-after figure for 20 seconds before covering her chest, waving the camera away, and playfully teasing, “That’s it. That’s all you guys get. Get out of here!”

Naturally, the video went viral, with Upton linking to it from her Twitter feed on Tuesday and writing, “MY ‘Cat Daddy’!!! directed by Terry Richardson…haha.”

Aside from 20 seconds of jiggling and gyrating, the nudity-free clip is relatively tame. So it was odd when YouTube briefly banned it Tuesday for violating the video-streaming site’s community guidelines, which state that “YouTube is not for pornography or is not for pornography or sexually explicit content” and that “most nudity is not allowed, particularly if it is in a sexual context. Generally if a video is intended to be sexually provocative, it is less likely to be acceptable for YouTube.”

Not one to be censored, Richardson then posted the clip on Vimeo. YouTube must have realized its competitor was siphoning off viewers, as the video was back up on the site as of Wednesday morning, this time with an ”inappropriate content” warning.

Asked about the temporary ban—which is mystifying, given that one could search “striptease,” “naked woman,” and a variety of other lewd subjects on YouTube and find much racier content than a model dancing in her bikini—a YouTube spokesperson told The Daily Beast the company had made a mistake.

“With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call,” the spokesperson said in an email. “When it’s brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it.”

A spokesman for Upton said, “The video is just Kate being Kate. YouTube is a great company and we respect whatever their decision is on this.”Richardson, who is infamous for getting models and celebrities to strip, could not be reached for comment.

The “Cat Daddy” video and other pictures of a scantily clad Upton were shot behind the scenes of a more tasteful collaboration between Richardson and Upton for the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Judging from Terry’s Diary and Upton’s Twitter feed, they thoroughly enjoyed working together.

'Dancing with the Stars' ousts Jaleel White and partner Kym Johnson

Posted in : Celebrities, Competitions

(added 14 days ago)

Dancing with the Stars ousts Jaleel White and professional partner Kym Johnson during Tuesday night's sixth live fourteenth-season results show on ABC. White -- an actor who is best known for his role on ABC's sitcom Family Matters -- and Johnson became the sixth couple ousted from the competition.

'Dancing with the Stars' ousts Jaleel White and partner Kym Johnson

They were ousted after Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli opted to save fellow couple Roshon Fegan and partner Chelsie Hightower instead following the season's new dance-duel format in which both pairs -- who were the bottom two couples based on the combination of the judges' scores they received during Monday night's performance show and the home viewer votes that were cast afterwards -- were required to perform different rumba routines simultaneously for the judges in a last ditch effort to save their place in the competition.

Dancing with the Stars' judges based their decision to eliminate White and Johnson instead of Fegan, who is a Disney Channel star, and Hightower solely on the quality of their rumba performances they saw during last night's results show. Inaba, Goodman and Tonioli unanimously voted to save Fegan in the competition because they believed he maintained his focus and energy throughout the dance while White's performance started out strong but deflated a bit throughout.

"I'm going to tell you a secret. I really only thought I would last about three dances in this competition. I wanted to get three good dances off. That's what I told my mom. I said, 'Mom, I want to give three good dances. I promise you I aint going out first,'" White said following his ouster.

"So to get this far -- I've made incredible friends. The fans have been incredible. I love Roshon Fegan. I'm happy [the judges] saved him; He has a bright future. Len, give him a 10... The transformation I've seen in myself is incredible. My daughter thinks I'm a professional dancer now. Dancing with the Stars is hands down the toughest thing I've ever done. Life's a journey. This is part of my journey. I bow to the beast that is the dance floor."

"He's just done an amazing job. I'm so proud of you Jaleel that you came into the competition. You're just amazing. Thank you so much for a great experience," Johnson added. White and Johnson finished in sixth place on Monday night's judging leaderboard with a total of 51 out of 60 possible points.

The couple performed a Viennese waltz to a classical song which received 24 out of 30 possible points from the judges and then participated in the "team dance" round which required the competition's seven remaining couples to be divided into two teams in which one team worked together to perform a tango routine while the other danced a paso doble. Each dance was eligible to receive up to 30 possible points -- which would be added to each contestants' individual scores -- from the judges.

White and Johnson were a part of "Team Tango" and earned 27 additional points for that routine. Fellow bottom two couple Fegan and Hightower finished in fifth place on the judges' leaderboard with 52 total points. In addition to the 27 points they earned from their "Team Tango" dance, they also performed an individual Argentine tango routine which received 25 points from the judges.

Entertainment reporter and Extra host Maria Menounos and partner Derek Hough topped the leaderboard and finished in first place for the first time this season with a grand total of 57 points. Menounos and Hough danced an individual paso doble which received 30 points -- the first perfect score of three 10s of the season -- from the judges and performed a dance with "Team Tango" that earned 27 additional points.

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and partner Mark Ballas finished second on the leaderboard with 54 total points. They danced a rumba which received 27 points and followed it with their "Team Tango" dance that earned 27 points from the judges.

Telenovela star William Levy and partner Cheryl Burke and NFL player Donald Driver and partner Peta Murgatroyd finished tied for third place on the judges' leaderboard after each couple earned 53 total points. After each pair danced a Viennese waltz that received 27 points from the judges, they then returned to the dance floor and performed their "Team Paso" dance that earned 26 points.

Former Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy finished in seventh -- and last -- place on the judges' leaderboard with 47 total points after they danced an individual Argentine tango that received 21 points and then performed the "Team Paso" routine which earned 26 points.

Who would have expected Menounos to last so long - and do so well in this competition?

Most of the men, meanwhile, lost their shirts for parts of the evening. Mark Ballas has the ugliest tats I’ve ever seen on a guy. Just saying.

Who are you rooting for to take home that mirror ball trophy?

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Maria Menounos Dishes on Injured Feet, Competitors

Posted in : Celebrities, Competitions

(added 17 days ago)

Five of the 12 competitors on season 14 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” have already been voted off the show, and the pressure is one for those who remain  to make it to the final three and their chance at the mirror ball trophy.

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Maria Menounos Dishes on Injured Feet, Competitors

Tonight’s routines will be performed to famous classical music pieces, and in addition to their individual routines, the stars will also perform a team dance. “Good Morning America” correspondent Cameron Mathison caught up with “Extra” co-host Maria Menounos and her pro partner, Derek Hough, as they rehearsed for their classical night performance, the paso doble.

Menounos has sustained several injuries during the season — to her chin, ribs and feet — but she has soldiered on, and will tonight, even though she tweeted that her feet got “a little worse” this week.
In fact, over the weekend,  Menounos tweeted about the status of her feet, posting: “Trying to stay positive. … I’ve made it this far–feet don’t fail me now! Praying:)” and “Epsom salt bath-check Bone stimulators-check Advil for inflammation-check Ice packs on feet and knees-check Vitamins-check Hahah Night all:)”

She may be having a rough time of it on the show, but you couldn’t tell from her performances. That’s because Menounos dances very well, and has great chemistry with Hough. Their sizzling dance floor interaction — and a kiss during one of their routines — have had people wondering whether they are more than just dance partners. Others have speculated that they’ve ratcheted up the sex appeal of their act on purpose.

“We’re not really going for anything specifically,” Hough said. “I don’t know. It happens more naturally.”
But if she hadn’t been partnered with Hough, who would she have chosen? They are asked to write their predictions down on a piece of paper.

When the answers are revealed, Hough writes that Menounos would have chosen Mark Ballas — who is partnered with classical singer Katherine Jenkins — while she writes she would have picked Tristan MacManus, who was partnered with Gladys Knight. And if Hough hadn’t been partnered with Menounos, he wrote that his choice of partner would have been Katherine Jenkins. Menounos had predicted Jenkins would have been Hough’s choice.

Menounos joked that Hough probably wishes he had Jenkins as a partner “because she’s really good.”
“She doesn’t mess up. She’s really elegant. I’m not,” she said, but Hough quickly dismissed that thought.
“Shut up. You’re amazing. I love dancing with you. Next question,” Hough said, laughing. It turns out the four — Ballas, Jenkins, Menounos and Hough — are friends. “We kind of just hang out a lot with each other and stuff,” he said. But they’re still competitors, and they’re working hard. Menounos said she’s already dropped two pants sizes, yet gained five pounds of muscle.
