Dance Of The Week

September 4, 2010 |10:30 | Gossips  By : Team X

Dance Of The Week: Merseyside's LEAP festival – which has been expanded into a year-long programme for 2010 – has snagged a UK exclusive with this short season from the Chicago-based Joel Hall Dancers. Founded 36 years ago, this was one of the original fusion companies, creating a glossy, accessible mixture of classical, contemporary and jazz moves. More recently, choreographer Hall has updated the group's aesthetic with an injection of street dance, ensuring the breadth of appeal that's always been a trademark of his choreography. His own work dominates the LEAP programme, including In The Shadow Of Nina Simone, created with Paul Sansasardo and set to songs by the great woman herself, and El Gato Negro which shows off the sexily eclectic talents of the company's dancers in movement driven by music including Zig Zag, Nightmares On Wax and Black Sheep.

Dancing With the Stars: Group Photos

September 1, 2010 |09:02 | Gossips  By : Team X

Dancing With the Stars: Group PhotosDancing With the Stars: Group Photos: Did Bachelor Pad get a Dancing With the Stars bounce? Did Jimmy Fallon get an Emmys bounce? And did Real Housewives of New Jersey get a smackdown bounce? The answers—and more questions—in the latest TV ratings quiz:

1. True or false: It pays to drop Bristol Palin's name. True, and also David Hasselholff's. And The Situation's. And… Last night's Bachelor Pad, featuring the formal unveiling of the new DWTS cast, was up from last week, sucking in an estimated 6.2 million viewers.

2. True or false: It pays to get great reviews for hosting the Emmys. Not while Craig Ferguson's around. While Fallon was presumably resting last night, Ferguson was working. (We don't get it, either. On the Monday before Labor Day?!) Accordingly, Ferguson's new Late Late Show beat Fallon's repeat Late Night in the national overnights.

Dancing With Two Left Feet

August 30, 2010 |12:07 | Gossips  By : Team X

Dancing With Two Left Feet: India and China have to learn to get along with each other. India and China deeply distrust each other. The enormous gap between these two simple truths is why no one should expect smooth sailing in bilateral relations between the two countries. There can be no doubts that New Delhi needed to
respond strongly to Beijing’s decision to disallow Lieutenant-General B.S. Jaiswal from visiting China. Especially given the specious argument that his command embraces Jammu and Kashmir. There should also be an acceptance that India cannot afford to put all of its exchanges with China in deep freeze for every bilateral infraction.

Latest Dance Of The Week

August 21, 2010 |09:47 | Gossips  By : Team X

Latest Dance Of The Week: Retina Dance's Belgian choreographer Filip Van Huffel explores the relationship between dancing and fighting. Wrestling – the subject of La Lutte (the title is French for wrestling) – is highly choreographed, and Van Huffel adds another layer of artifice and expression, exploring different levels of communication, intimacy and physical interaction as two men fight. A different male perspective is offered by Plan B's A Wee Home From Home, Frank McConnell's piece about a man returning to Glasgow after a long absence. Set to a score by Michael Marra, McConnell's solo explores the workings of memory, set against comic social observations of life in the Scotland's toughest city.

Latest Dance Of The Week

It was first performed 21 years ago and is being restaged for this year's Fringe, offering a new slant on its basic theme: what it means to be Scottish. The sudden death of Pina Bausch last summer sent shockwaves through the world of modern dance, but her company has since made a welcome commitment to keeping her works on stage. Agua, made in 2001, is one of the exuberant travelogues Bausch choreographed towards the end of her career; this one was inspired by the company's residence in Brazil and is steeped in the colours, scents, flavours and heat of the country. Created out of Bausch's distinctive theatrical mix of dance, confessional and fantastical imagery, Agua is a party of kissing competitions, absurd flirtations, fairy lights and high jinks on the beach.

Latest American Mao's Last Dancer

August 20, 2010 |15:31 | Gossips  By : Team X

Latest American Mao's Last Dancer: “Mao’s Last Dancer” is the story of a young and flexible Chinese man who comes to America, where he’s seduced by disco, creative freedom and a honey-haired Houston virgin, and decides to stay.

Latest American Mao's Last Dancer

It’s also about ballet and the modern history of China, as embodied in the true story of the dancer Li Cunxin, whose autobiography (from which the film takes its title) was a major best seller in Australia. But grands jetés and the Cultural Revolution are just exotic window dressing in “Mao’s Last Dancer,” which is, at heart, nothing more than an old-fashioned tear-jerker.

So You Think You Can Dance fans pick Froderman

August 13, 2010 |14:40 | Celebrities | Competitions | Gossips  By : Team X

Lauren Froderman had all the right moves on "So You Think You Can Dance." Viewer votes awarded the 18-year-old recent high school graduate from Phoenix the title of "America's Favorite Dancer" and the $250,000 grand prize. Froderman bested 18-year-old runner-up Kent Boyd of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and 19-year-old third-place finisher Robert Roldan of Thousand Oaks, Calif., on the Fox dancing contest's live finale Thursday.

"I have been working my whole life for something like this," Froderman said. The bubbly contemporary jazz dancer was best known for her ability to pick up other styles, effortlessly taking on hip-hop, ballroom and Bollywood routines throughout the seventh season. She also deftly tackled a wardrobe malfunction - a dangly broken dress strap - while performing a Broadway number during the third week of competition.

Hip-hop dance is growing in popularity, allowing troupes to make money

August 9, 2010 |16:20 | Gossips  By : Team X

Matt Nguyen's career options once amounted to haircutting or maybe military service. But the 21-year-old dancer nicknamed "Dumbo" now makes $4,000 a month cutting up dance floors and battling fellow hip-hop artists. And after propelling to fame through a cable TV reality competition, Nguyen and his buddies from Southern California think their new career could last longer than the latest two-step.

"We used to just dance for fun," said Nguyen, frontman for Poreotics, a hip-hop troupe featured in Justin Bieber's latest music video as well as all over YouTube. "We didn't think it was going to be that big, but it's our life now," he said, as he waited to rehearse at the recent World Hip-Hop Dance Championships in Las Vegas.

Top 3 finalists revealed on So You Think You Can Dance

August 7, 2010 |16:31 | Competitions | Gossips  By : Team X

We still don’t know who will be crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer” next week, but we do know it won’t be Adechike. Forgot to set your DVR? The top three contestants who will appear in the “So You Think You Can Dance” finale next week are Kent (no surprise there), Lauren (who was looking a bit iffy after being voted into the bottom three last week), and Robert, whom Mia declared the “prince of the competition” on Wednesday night. We have to admit, the verdict is pretty fair.

For starters, we’re relieved that Lauren found her way out of the bottom three — she’s so perky and lovable that you almost forget to hate her for being a cheerleader AND student body vice-president. And, her dancing keeps getting better.
